"Your drawings stink and you're not funny." Damon's 3rd grade
teacher loudly pronounced in front of all 28 of her students before
sending him to the principal's office. Undeterred, he continued
to draw pictures of his friends and teachers, however unfunny
they might be.
Remarkably, Damon heard those exact words from a college professor
after enrolling in a figure drawing class. Apparently, nude models
don't like to see thought bubbles above their heads and was quickly
shuttled out of class into the cold, dark computer lab. With only
the sound of clunky computers and dripping coffee, Damon helped
create two student films that were eventually screened in such
places as Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Film Festival, the
Short Attention Span Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara International
Film Festival.
With those animations under his belt, he bribed his way into
Alias|Wavefront as a tech support
rep. There, Damon confused and bewildered customers for over 4
½ years, both on the phones and in the training room where
he was tasked with teaching what others strangely described as
voodoo, or Maya as other industry types know it. With a boot to
the rump and locked up doors behind him, he finally landed with
PDI/Dreamworks and is
now an animator working on the upcoming movie Madagascar,
as well as holding a credit to the 2004 blockbuster Shrek
2.
He currently lives in Northern California with his wife Tricia
and her 2 allergens...err cats where he is still making unfunny
pictures of his 3rd grade teacher. |
